Vestas to supply turbines totalling 48MW in the Dominican Republic.

Vestas is to supply turbines totalling 48MW to Elecnor’s Larimar 2 wind farm in the Dominican Republic.

The Danish manufacturer will deliver and install 14 V117-3.45MW machines for the project, which is located in the Enriquillo region of the country.

Delivery is planned for the first quarter of 2018 with commissioning expected for the third quarter of that year.

Vestas also supplied turbines to the 49MW Larimar 1 project two years ago.

Vestas Mediterranean president Marco Graziano said: “Energy consumption in the Dominican Republic is growing rapidly and Vestas continues to play a key role in the country’s transition towards energy independency.”

When Larimar 2 is fully operational the Dominican Republic will host 131MW of Vestas turbines, the company said.
